f o r m

the artist possesses an unusual sensitivity for
materials, both innate quality and use.
he leans toward the voluptuousness of
feeling and messing with them in a
tactile, self way: no blowtorch, no typing.

earth, soil, dirt—it drops out of his hands
but also leaves some of itself there.
twine slips through a closed fist (that
unclenches, slightly, to prevent a rope burn);
it can hang and fasten, thread, bare.

he desperately wants to share some of this with
someone, but in a way that grants the experience of
viewing, receipt, as well as what that dirt left in the
lines of his palms. he imagines that person's recoil,
the curling away when he extends his work.
